Ceiling: Getting Started

First session with Ceiling

Follow the installation guide for your operating system. For a missing purchase, use the account and activation guide.

   Save your session

   Save a copy of your DAW project before changing the processing chain. Lower your monitoring level before comparing processed and bypassed audio.

   Insert Ceiling

   After installation completes, reopen your DAW and insert Ceiling as an audio effect. For final output limiting, place it after processors that increase the level. If it is missing, use your DAW's plugin rescan instructions.

   Start with the default settings

   Play a familiar passage. Check that the DAW is sending audio through the plugin and that its display responds. A quiet signal may need no limiting; little or no gain reduction is not necessarily a fault.

   Adjust and compare

   Set CEILING for your intended output level. Increase GAIN gradually while listening to the loudest passage. If the result loses too much punch or sounds strained, reduce GAIN. Compare at a similar listening level rather than choosing the louder result automatically.

   Check the result

   Listen through the passage and check the final output, including any processing after Ceiling. Save your project once the result is right. Reopen it before relying on the setup for a deadline.

If something is not working

Ceiling is missing from the plugin list

Confirm that installation completed and your DAW supports the installed format. Restart the DAW and rescan once using the DAW troubleshooting guide. Keep the scan error if it fails.

No audio or an unexpected difference

Lower your monitoring level and compare using the DAW's bypass control. Check track routing and any monitoring or audition modes in the plugin. If the issue appears only with Ceiling enabled, save a copy of the session and contact support rather than deleting settings.

Too much limiting

Reduce the level being driven into Ceiling with GAIN or the preceding processor. Check the loudest part of the session, not just a quiet introduction. More limiting is not automatically a better master.

Clicks, a freeze, or a crash

Save your work if the host is responsive. Stop repeated retries and report the plugin version, OS, DAW version, format, and action that triggered the problem. Do not repeatedly reopen your only copy of an affected session.
